Toyama bay before my eyes,
An unbroken spread of fixed fishing nets.
Fishermen bargain with the ocean and catch fish in their nets
And there is always a fear of the sea
Tangible in their lives.
Every day I am handed a fish to make a print
And, as if I am entrusting it with spirit, I fold it into a paper boat.
I scratch the shape of fish nets into the shore to be erased,
And repeat it every day.
I gently place the fish print boat
And, before I know it, waves lodge it in the sandy beach.
